Reach into your kit & pull out the bag that says Experiment 22. Take everything out of the bag and place it around your white mat.
Grab one film canister and fill it a third of the way with water. Remember, this experiment is best done outside since it’s a bit messy.
Now, open the package of fizzy tablets and add a half of a tablet to the water. Quickly snap the cap back on and flip it over. As the gases inside release it builds pressure and eventually blasts off into the air.
Now let’s do it again. Grab a film canister, and fill it 1/3 with water, drop in a 1/2 of a tablet, and quickly recap then flip it upside down.
Next, let’s make our own fizzy tablets. Grab the plastic cup and place it onto your mat. Then, open the tube of Citric Acid and pour it all into the cup.
Now, open the tube of Baking Soda and add it all to the cup. Then, grab your spoon and mix it all together for 10 seconds.
Next, grab your pipette, fill it with some water and gently add 10 drops to the cup of powder. Next, use your spoon to mix it around. You want to try to combine it as much as possible, so take your time.
Now grab your plunger and pull it back to the 5 mark. Use your spoon to fill the plunger with your mixture. Flip it over onto your paper towel, and push down on the top of the plunger to press the mixture into a tablet. Once pressed, simply lift it up and push to release it.
Next, go ahead and make a few more following the same steps as before. Load your plunger, flip and push down to press it into a tablet.
How It Works
But what happens when there's too much gas and pressure inside the canister? That's where the excitement really takes off! The top of the canister can no longer contain the growing power within, and with a mighty burst, it propels the rocket into the air, reaching for the skies.
