How do you work with the National Science Teaching Association?

The National Science Teaching Association (NSTA) is the world's largest organization dedicated to promoting excellence in teaching science. NSTA works with us to select topics of our videos as well as reviews scripts for accuracy, clarity, and alignment to NGSS DCIs. They also approve videos before we release them. Working with NSTA allows us to maximize the effectiveness of the lessons.

Why do I need to create a password and a PIN?

The password is used to login. The PIN you create during checkout is used to make administrative changes to the account. This prevents students from accidentally making changes like upgrading or downgrading your subscription or changing your username to something silly.

What is the difference between a classroom and a school account?

A classroom account is for access on 1 device at a time, such as a computer, tablet, or phone. That is ideal for one teacher who can use it in front of the class. A school account gives all teachers and all students (in one building) access to an unlimited number of devices. It also includes the ability to send out unlimited student links. Students clicking the student link do not need to log in and do not need an account. Please contact us for pricing if your school is virtual.

Can I download all the teaching materials at once?

Yes. We make this available to subscribers on the manage account page (click on the gear icon, top right corner). You can access this page after subscribing.

Can I use this in high school?

Our K-8 content is made with the appropriate depth for that age group. With that being said, many high school teachers use our 6-8 content as a foundational review at the beginning of their units. For example, to learn about stoichiometry, a review on chemical reactions and the law of conversation of matter could be helpful (we cover both of those videos at a 6-8 level), or to dive deeper into evolution, a review of genes & mutation, comparative anatomy, the fossil record and natural selection can help (we cover all of those at the 6-8 level). Other foundational topics include Newton's laws of motion and rock layers (geologic time).

Is it available in Spanish?

100% of our K-8 science videos have subtitles in Spanish. To display the subtitles, simply click the "CC" button on the video player bar and select Spanish.

If your account renewed and you forgot, don't worry, simply contact support within 30 days and the full payment will be returned. We send all subscribers reminder emails. How do I get reimbursed via the Teacher Reimbursement Program?

Simply contact us with the username of your school, your username and we will send 100% of your personal funds back to you. Will you make more videos?

We currently have 117 video lessons that cover 100% of the Next Generation Science Standards for grades K-8. We'd love to make more science videos, but since we've covered all the topics, we will add more science videos when the standards change in the future. We have also translated the videos & lessons into Spanish and expanded to include K-8 math in 2022. You can see how our current lessons align with your state standards here: www.generationgenius.com/standards

Are the lessons supposed to be used in a certain order?

The videos are self-contained and do not rely on the information presented in other videos, so there is no specified order. Typically the curriculum you use sets the order/pace and teachers supplement their units with GG lessons. The beginning of the GG videos often include a background review of the topic, such as when learning about the causes of seasons, the video will first review Earth's orbit and rotation.

What is the pricing if I teach more than one class?

Our current science classroom plan ($225/yr) is for one teacher and their class. If you are teaching multiple classes, that would fall under the school plan, which includes unlimited student share links.

What happened to your home plan?

We launched Generation Genius in 2018 as a classroom product based on Dr. Jeff's school visits. During the 2020 pandemic, we added a lower-cost home plan to support at-home learning. Now 3 years after the pandemic year, home users are less than 3% of our subscribers. Additionally, there has been an unfortunate issue with teachers getting home plans to use in school and password sharing among homeschoolers.

For these reasons, we decided to sunset the home plan. It is important to note that anyone previously on a home plan can keep it along with their original lower rate. We grandfather all subscribers into their original rate and have never increased prices on existing subscribers. This remains true.

For those interested, homeschool group rates for 20 or more users are still available at $149/year per family (50% off). If you have 20 or more families in your group, please reach out to [email protected] for more information.
